Accutane Birth Defects

If your child has a birth defect you believe may be related to Accutane or if you were forced to have an abortion because of Accutane you may be entitled to hundreds of thousands of dollars in compensation.

Each year woman who take accutane exposed there unborn children to serious risk of birth defects. Accutane is known to cause severe birth defects in many, many cases. Accutane may also cause miscarriages.

Even if a woman only takes Accutane for a short period of time, her child may develop birth defects such as:

* Hydrocephaly (fluid filled spaces in the brain)
* Ear and eye abnormalities (including vision and hearing problems)
* Cleft lip and palate
* Heart defects
* Brain Damage
* Mental retardation

Accutane causes these birth defects in the early weeks after conception usually before a woman even knows she is pregnant. Children without obvious birth defects born while there mother was on Accutane often have mental retardation and learning disabilities.

Lawyers believe the drug maker, Roche did not put into place a proper program to protect pregnant women from taking Accutane.

Although, Accutane features warning labels and the prescribing doctor must have the patient sign consent forms stating she understands the serious risk of birth defects, the compnay failed to deal with the fact that many women do not plan on becoming pregnant. The company and some doctors have pressures pregnant women to have abortions. Some women have felt they were "forced" by their physicians to have an abortions to avoid birth defects.
